Hardly Perfect

So the Saints aren't perfect. So the Saints lost to Dallas. Big... fucking... deal. One team was trying to take aim at perfection, while the other team fought for its very playoff survival. What cost the Saints in this one, was coming up flat in a game that was much ballyhooed and over-hyped. New Orleans may not be perfect but 13-1 is still much better than 9-5 last time I checked. The bottom line in this one is that the Saints went three and out in their first two possessions AND their defense allowed Dallas to go on consecutive scoring drives to open the game. Game, set, match???

NFL Week 1

The Eagles defense played much better than I had anticipated. I had concerns about the loss of Bradley at MLB, of the leadership of Dawkins, and the passing away of our defensive guru. Chances are that in week 2, the Saints won't be forced into anywhere near the amount of turnovers that the Eagles D was able to generate versus the Panthers. Combine that with the loss of McNabb and this team faces an extremely difficult task this week. Still, in situations such as these it is interesting to see how a team responds to adversity.

2009 NFL DRAFT

Each season, we see what an exercise in futility mock drafts are in terms of the NFL draft. Sure, it's the sexy thing to do and can generate interest and some page hits but in the end, it's absolute nonsense. Some people in the industry rile up fan interest with their mock drafts, only to watch their 'expert' projections implode by pick 5. Our good friend, Denis Krusos, over at ProFootballDraftNetwork.com doesn't get caught up in mock projections but rather does a splendid job of actually scouting and rating players which is a more reasonable approach to draft day.

Gonzalez to Falcons

Atlanta traded a 2nd round pick in 2010 to Kansas City for Tony Gonzalez. In terms of fantasy, Gonzo was the top TE in the league in a less than dynamic offense last season and should remain at or very close to the top of the heap again in 2009. The Falcons offense has many weapons that should compliment each other well to provide nice balance. You have to like Matt Ryan's prospects for this season even more with this addition. For KC, they get a first day pick for a 33-year old playing a position that isn't emphasized in Todd Haley's offense.

Eagles Acquire Jason Peters

Paul Domowitch of the Philadelphia Daily News has confirmed that the Eagles have traded a first-round pick (#28), a fourth-round pick, and an undisclosed pick in 2010 to the Buffalo Bills for Pro-Bowl LT, Jason Peters. Many Eagles fans expected that aging tackles Tra Thomas, 34, and John Runyan, 35, could be sent packing leading up to the '09 season. Still, when the Eagles failed to re-sign Runyan and then allowed Thomas to walk away(signing with Jacksonville), some eyebrows were raised as to what the plan of attack would be in regards to the offensive line.

Same Ole' T.O. ???

Photobucket Just saw that the Buffalo Bills reported today for the start of off season conditioning workouts but a certain player is nowhere to be seen so far. While Terrell Owens is known for staying in great condition, you would think he would meet up today with the rest of his new team. And while I think T.O.

Andy Reid: "I like our receivers"

While many in and around Philly have lambasted Big Red for the Eagles shortcomings and a good deal have called for him to be fired, I've defended the guy over and over. That isn't to say that I haven't had my doubts about decisions he's made such as the benching of McNabb in the Baltimore game last season and the how he had someone else break the news to Donovan. Still, it's hard to argue with AR's results as he's won more games than any head coach in Eagles history.

Stallworth in trouble?

The Miami Herald is reporting that Cleveland Browns wide receiver, Donte' Stallworth, was legally drunk at the time he struck and killed a pedestrian in Miami Beach while driving his Bentley last Saturday. The Miami Beach police department is not confirming the story at this time however if true, this development figures to bring the 28-year old Stallworth's career to an abrupt end.
