Andy Reid: "I like our receivers"

While many in and around Philly have lambasted Big Red for the Eagles shortcomings and a good deal have called for him to be fired, I've defended the guy over and over. That isn't to say that I haven't had my doubts about decisions he's made such as the benching of McNabb in the Baltimore game last season and the how he had someone else break the news to Donovan. Still, it's hard to argue with AR's results as he's won more games than any head coach in Eagles history.

With the exception of the failed TO experiment and drafting DeSeasn Jackson, Reid has come up short in terms of providing McNabb with top-notch receivers who consistently make big plays and stretch a defense. That's kind of difficult to fathom when you consider AR worships at the alter of the pass game and who at times, treats the run like a red-headed step-child. I just don't understand how Reid can appear to be so incredulous about the wide receiver position. AR has two #1 picks and over $40 million in cap space available which gives him more ammunition than most teams have and it will be interesting to see whether this opportunity is capitalized on or squandered away. One thing is certain... I also "like" our receivers however adding a guy like Anquan Boldin, would change that word to "love".

I believe Andy Reid is a solid coach. In this day & age of salary cap & NFL parity, he has taken the Eagles to 5 NFC Championship games this decade if memory serves me right. I think they lost to St. Louis, Tampa Bay, Carolina, and Arizona...and defeated Atlanta. That is consistent excellence. He hasn't won THE big game yet, but it's hard to argue with his results. I've rooted for the NY Jets for 30 years...and they have been to 2 TOTAL AFC title games.

If the Eagles get Boldin, they are my pick to win it all next season. Joe Q. is correct...the one thing I don't understand about Andy Reid is that he hasn't acquired more top-notch WR talent for the passing game he loves. Westy certainly has helped the passing game over the years, but you would think the Eagles could've had a dominant passing attack under McNabb if the WR corps were a little better.
