Flyers-Penguins... Playoff Preview?
Today's NBC game of the week pitted the teams from last season's Eastern Conference Finals, Philly and Pittsburgh live from the Igloo. The Flyers were able to get the win, 3-1 over a Pens teams that was going into the day 8-0-2. Philly took advantage of the power-play with Simon Gagne going to the net nicely to get the first goal of the game. Scott Hartnell made it 2-zip Fly guys, redirecting a puck into the net with his skate. Pittsburgh stayed into the game and was physical throughout (reminiscent of last year's playoffs) and managed to cut the lead to 1 when Sidney Crosby danced through traffic, drew defenders to him, aptly maneuvering around them and finding Kris Letang, whose ice-level shot to the left side of the Flyers net, bounced off the right pad of Martin Biron, caromed off the right post and in for the goal. The Penguins continued to apply pressure but the Flyers held them off and got an empty netter from Darroll Powe.
As things stand today, these two teams would meet in what should be the most intense series in the opening round of the playoffs.
