What an incredible day of sports it was on Saturday, 5/2/09. My afternoon began with the Penguins-Capitals in their game 1 match up of the Eastern Conference semi-finals. This game had plenty of skill and speed. Two of the biggest stars in the sport, Sidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin, each had goals and dished out big hits but the play of this game was when Caps goalie, Simeon Varlamov, made an unbelievable stick save on Crosby that stopped what looked to be an easy goal on a wide open net. The Caps win a hard fought game, 3-2.
Versus Television Network formerly known as (OLN), the Outdoor Life Network, this emerge from the Outdoor Life magazine. OLN was launched in 1993 and became a major network with the contract of the National Hockey League in 2005. The OLN Canadian based network is in Toronto, Canada but the American OLN-Versus Network moved its headquarters to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Each season, we see what an exercise in futility mock drafts are in terms of the NFL draft. Sure, it's the sexy thing to do and can generate interest and some page hits but in the end, it's absolute nonsense. Some people in the industry rile up fan interest with their mock drafts, only to watch their 'expert' projections implode by pick 5. Our good friend, Denis Krusos, over at ProFootballDraftNetwork.com doesn't get caught up in mock projections but rather does a splendid job of actually scouting and rating players which is a more reasonable approach to draft day.
Atlanta traded a 2nd round pick in 2010 to Kansas City for Tony Gonzalez. In terms of fantasy, Gonzo was the top TE in the league in a less than dynamic offense last season and should remain at or very close to the top of the heap again in 2009. The Falcons offense has many weapons that should compliment each other well to provide nice balance. You have to like Matt Ryan's prospects for this season even more with this addition. For KC, they get a first day pick for a 33-year old playing a position that isn't emphasized in Todd Haley's offense.
